Man in charge: Pol Pot (Saloth Sar), Pol Pot was a dictator who was the head of the communist party, The Khmer Rouge. His harsh tactics, and dedication to making Cambodia a Communist farming community made him successful. The Khmer Rouge gained power in early 1975, and weren't knocked from their thrown until early 1979. Pol Pot died of natural causes in 1998 (Pol Pot).

Second in command: Nuon Chea. Nuon Chea was a chief ideologist for the Khmer Rouge. He came up with most of the plans that were carried out by the Khmer Rouge. In 2014 Nuon Chea, who is now 88 years old, received a life sentence for crimes against humanity (NUON Chea).
